When the swarm of literally tens of thousands of films nesting inside a dedicated movie buff’s head reaches critical mass and the buzz becomes too busy to ignore, there’s but one thing to do – compile a top 100 list.

This ‘hive’ will be organised according to time period – nominating ten loved films from each of the decades from the 1940’s through to the 2010’s. That will total eighty films. Twenty selections will be included each for the 1970’s and 80’s – ‘my‘ decades – rounding out the list to 100 titles.
The decade of the 1960’s was also known as the ‘Swinging Sixties’. It was an era characterized by demands for greater individual freedom and a breaking away from the rigid social constraints of previous times.

Politically this time witnessed the assassinations of the leader of Japan’s Socialist Party Inejiro Asanuma 浅沼 稲次郎 (1960) – the Prime Minister of Togo (1963) – John F. Kennedy (1963) – human rights activist Malcolm X (1965) – Argentinian revolutionary leader Che Guevara (1967) – Martin Luther King Jr (1968) and Robert F Kennedy (1968).
Technology-wise, the 1960’s saw the release of the birth control pill, the measles vaccine, the world’s first automatic teller machine, the Quicksort algorithm (the most common sorter on computers), as well as the first public demonstrations of the computer mouse, email and video conferencing.
Academy Award winners for Best Picture during this decade were –

And here are my ten favorite films from this period –

Every frame of these ten movies a feast!

PSS. This has been in the pipeline for some time. Coming to a beach near you… the SCENIC WRITER’S SHACK swimsuit collection. First reveal. One piece. Classic. A picture worth a thousand words. Seriously? Ummm… yeah.

PSSS. Still here? I’d better show you this then. The March issue of DARK DOSSIER Magazine came out last week. My included story begins on page 52 HERE.

The 60’s was such a great transitional decade for film. I love that you list contains 3 Bond films. Psycho and Planet of the Apes are some of my favorites as well. The rest I haven’t seen, but most are on my list.

That’s great.
What I love about movies is how they can ignite conversations between people many years and in some cases decades and even generations after they were actually made. ‘Talking film’ is one of life’s great pleasures, I reckon.

I can’t do these very well as they hurt too much! Midnight Cowboy would be there but I must add there is not enough grease in the world to help my brain cogs turn without smoke and fire arising from trying to do 10!
. However Glen I so enjoyed reading this. Great choices dude. You put me on to Von Ryan’s Express which was most excellent so I’m not surprised to see that there. Planet Of The Apes without doubt be another on mine.
I loved seeing the curve ball at the end!
Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D high five buddy. Bernard Cribbins is so great. I’ve always been niffed that Peter Cushing doesn’t get totally excepted in the DR Who world. I think for some reason they didn’t make the doc an alien and kept him as an elderly scientist. But sod that, I always see him as the same Doctor. The first film with Roy Castle was great too but Invasion Earth was so exciting. Great add bro.
Well done on the short story too. Hope to read soon.
ps My bikini line is a mess as you can well imagine (you had best not tbh) so it would be for the greater good that I don’t purchase one of the hot Scenic Writer’s Shack swimsuits!

It takes a film intellect no less than the likes of yours Wolf to recognize and label DALEKS’ INVASION EARTH 2150 A.D. (1966) as a curve ball. In this list that is EXACTLY what it is and that was EXACTLY my intention and desired effect including it here.
When I read the words ‘bikini line’ my heart skipped a beat but then I recognized you were talking about yours. And as you advised, best not to imagine that (no offence to the Werewolf community the world over – ’cause with those sharp teeth that’s not a community I’d ever want to anger!)
I’m definitely not averse to hearing the SCENIC WRITER’S SHACK swimsuit described as ‘hot’ but just checking… you’re sure you’re not talking about the model IN the swimsuit?
