Favorite Films of the 2010’s

When the swarm of literally tens of thousands of films nesting inside a dedicated movie buff’s head reaches critical mass and the buzz becomes too busy to ignore, there’s but one thing to do – compile a top 100 list.

This ‘hive’ has been organized according to time period – nominating ten loved films from each of the decades from the 1940’s through to the 2010’s. That will total eighty films. Twenty selections have been included each for the 1970’s and 80’s – ‘my‘ decades – rounding out the list to 100 titles.

The 2010’s was the decade that saw the smartphone become widespread. It also gave rise to the ME TOO movement.

Digital music sales topped CD sales for the time ever in 2012. The best-selling book of this decade was FIFETY SHADES OF GREY.  DRAKE was named the top music artist of the decade in the US by Billboard.

MUAMMAR GADDAFI leader of Libya, was shot to death in 2011. In 2013, KIM JONG-NAM, eldest son of the late KIM JONG-ILwas assassinated by two women in Malayasia with a VX nerve agent.

2019 saw the release of the very first black hole image. In the world of film, 2019’s JOKER became the first R rated movie to gross over $1 billion.

  1. I’ve only seen one of these movies and it was incredible. The Equalizer is one of the best action movies I’ve seen. For some reason numbers 5 and 6 didn’t come up and I couldn’t see them.

On another note, I can’t wait for this years Oscar’s and I hope Robert Downey Jr and Cillian Murphy get the male gongs. Can’t believe Robert De Niro has waited 49 years from his last nomination for The Godfather Part 2 in 1975.

  2. The original THE EQUALIZER film starring Denzel (first name only required!) was a cloud-piercing ‘beyond great’ masterwork I would rate on a scale of one to ten – a 13. The sequels – THE EQUALIZER 2 (2018) and THE EQUALIZER 3 (2023) were both 7 out of 10 movie experiences for me. As a post note I will add I am looking forward to seeing Denzel later this year in the upcoming Ridley Scott directed GLADIATOR 2. Just saying!

If Numbers 5 and 6 on the list didn’t come through for you – allow me! At number 6 we had the Clint Eastwood directed AMERICAN SNIPER (2015) starring Bradley Cooper. Taking out the number 5 position was the little known Aussie Joel Edgerton (he wrote the movie, directed it and starred in it) film THE GIFT (2015) which is a super creepy and sooooo-well-done urban thriller.

As for one of my other all-time fave actors, DeNiro – good on him for getting a BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR nomination for his role in Martin Scorcese’s historical drama KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON. He could use a bit of a lift, after some of the trouble he’s been through of late, including losing his most recent ‘office divorce’ (ha ha, love that term!) case –

Whadda ya reckon? If you're feeling it, why not go ahead and leave a comment.
